It’s a Revolution
I admit, I am not a very athletic person. I have the basic sports skills but I’m not good enough to participate in leagues outside of cheering for my kids. I can hit, kick, throw and catch a ball. I can skate (kinda). I’m still learning puck handling and it’d be a while before I play with my future mother-in-law. I’m not really even into sports either but hockey is the one sport I’ve always enjoyed watching, preferably live. I get bored with the televised games. And while I am a Wing Nut, I always enjoy a good college or minor league hockey game. Heck, I love hockey enough to marry my very own hockey player
(I admit, I love watching him skate)
Battle Creek isn’t known for much beyond Kelloggs and Frosted Flakes. In fact, if it wasn’t for Kelloggs, the city probably wouldn’t even be as big as it is. We don’t have much here in the way of professional sports teams. Baseball, basketball and hockey are all AA leagues. This season, I’ve been working as a game photographer for the Battle Creek Revolution hockey team. I enjoy it. Of the volunteer work I’ve done, it seems like this team is
really the only group of people that truly appreciate what I do for them.
I can’t pick just a few pictures from different games so I’ll share a couple now and more over the next few days.
Just a week old
One of my favorite parts about being a wedding photographer is staying in touch with the couples and find out when they’re buying a new house or getting a puppy together or better yet, expecting a baby. What’s even better is when I get to do their maternity pictures and then the baby’s first pictures. I recently had that chance and let me tell you, she is adorable!
A few Christmas pictures
Hobby Lobby is excellent for props. Shatter-proof ornaments (although a toddler and my boys can find a way to make them break), a cute tutu, fabric for backdrops, and more. I wish I could get something every month from there to build up my prop collection.
I’m busier this holiday season than I ever been! I’m loving it. I’ve got room downstairs in my studio and holiday music on my Pandora. My yard backs up to some woods so there’s a great spot for snow pictures. And soon, if Cal ever gets the rink skate ready, I could do some fun skating pictures too. Just think – skating while the snow falls and pine trees in the background…
Halloween
I gotta share these. Mind you, they’re just snapshots but the boys’ Dad did such an awesome job on their costumes, I HAVE to share!
Not the best picture of me but you get the idea. I had a lot of people telling me that I looked like her, that I could pass for her daughter, sister, double, etc. It was weird, several people were taking pictures of me too. Now, only if Cal’s work party was having a costume contest. I could win!
Class of 2011
Every year, I get a few seniors. I’d love to get more though. Perhaps I need to advertise at the schools themselves. Here’s a few of my favorites from Class of 2011.
I shot Josh at my new place and found that I will have a pretty nice area for pictures once we get it cleaned up in the spring. Can’t wait!
Oops…
I’m pretty far behind, aren’t I?
Moving would do that to you. Right smack dab in the middle of my busiest time too. My usual turn around time got doubled due to workload and a house that I needed to get settled into. Thankfully, very little work was needed. But I went from a little 2 bedroom house with a yard that took 5 minutes to mow to a 5 bedroom house with a full basement and a little over a half acre of land. Best part? I have room for my studio! Downside? No place for a darkroom. I’ll get back into that eventually. I got a couple cameras I want to play with.
My boys each have their own room. I live on a dead-end street so less traffic. I finally feel safe, relaxed, and happy to be home. It helps that I don’t have to share a bathroom with my boys anymore and it’s blissfully quiet here! I have land to play with which is going to look great for pictures. There are a few things I want to do, got a list about a mile long. Soon, I’ll have more than just a couple backdrops to play with.
I really should add some more pictures. I’ve got a wedding and several seniors to share with you. Soon. Right now, wonderful Cal has burgers on the new grill, Michael wants to watch Ghostbusters, and I’m just about all caught up on my work right now.
Trevor
It’s that time again. I’m starting to get calls for senior pictures. It seems like most people want the fall pictures around here. Most of my seniors call me late August through October.
Anyone remember what Brad Pitt looked like when he first hit the scene? As I was going through Trevor’s pictures, a few reminded me of a very young Brad Pitt minus that big ol’ poof of hair he had. Or maybe it’s just me. You be the judge.
Sandy and Jeremy
I met Sandy at Miller College. We had a couple classes together. She is such a sweetheart with an open and kind heart. She’s the kind of person that will help you in any way she can. I knew when she found someone, she would be totally committed to him. When she asked me to shoot her wedding, I jumped at the chance. I was so happy that she had found someone that saw her for everything that she was and had to offer.
I did their engagement pictures and placed them at a picnic table, looking out at the river that went through the park and wanted to do something that touched on that same idea, only this time, looking at the altar where they just got married.
Congratulations, Sandy and Jeremy and may you be blessed with a long and happy life together.
